About Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (RAHS)
Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (RAHS) is a government autonomous medical institution located in Ghorahi, Dang, Lumbini Province, Nepal. Established in 2017 through the “Rapti Health Science Academy Act,” the academy was created under Nepal’s national initiative to establish a state-owned medical institution in each province. RAHS was developed by upgrading the former Rapti Sub-Regional Hospital into a modern academic medical center focused on healthcare services, medical education, and research.
The institution serves a large population from Lumbini Province and neighboring districts of Karnali Province, making it one of the major public healthcare and referral centers in western Nepal. Its mission is centered on producing qualified healthcare professionals, improving access to quality healthcare, promoting medical research, and strengthening healthcare delivery in underserved regions.
RAHS operates a tertiary-level teaching hospital with approximately 300 beds. The hospital provides extensive healthcare services in Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Dialysis, Radiology, and other specialty departments. Modern facilities including ICU, NICU/PICU, maternity services, emergency wards, operation theaters, MRI, CT Scan, laboratory services, and rehabilitation units support both patient care and medical training.
The academy offers undergraduate and postgraduate health science programs including MBBS, B.Sc. Nursing, Bachelor in Nursing Science (BNS), Bachelor in Public Health (BPH), MD programs, and other specialized health science courses. The institution focuses on community-oriented medical education, practical clinical training, research activities, and the use of modern healthcare technologies. Recent approvals have expanded its MBBS intake and postgraduate academic programs.
One of the major strengths of RAHS is its strong emphasis on rural and regional healthcare development. Students gain exposure to healthcare challenges faced by communities in western Nepal while participating in community-based medical services and public health programs. The academy aims to produce healthcare professionals capable of serving both urban and remote regions of the country.
